The Kompas locomotive: 50 years of connections, memories and new stories

This year we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Kompas Hotel. It emerged from the then very popular Motel Kompas, which was built on the tracks of the former railroad line between Ljubljana and Rateče. The hotel, which is reverently located directly on the route of the former railroad line, like a locomotive once was, connects and unites people from near and far who love to return to the heart of the beautiful nature of the Julian Alps.

In 1974, a success story began to be written, in which a single hotel became a complex of resorts that today pamper and connect guests from more than a hundred different countries.

We like to say that the best memories are the ones you share with others. Our walls are full of fond memories, funny stories and fun adventures shared with our retirees at our 50th anniversary event. They were the ones who looked back with joy on the days when the president of the then SFRY, Josip Broz Tito, honoured them with a visit, when they served the most famous Superman, Christopher Reeves, and the movie diva Rossana Arquette, and on the days when Kompasov Janez was the best-selling mascot in the former Yugoslavia.

At the event, we first treated our retirees to a December lunch, then the musicians provided thematic nostalgia with the wonderful song "Vozi me vlak v daljave", and our director Milan Sajovic presented the plans for Hotel Kompas in the coming years.

Every journey leaves beautiful memories, and so we have condensed the moments of our 50-year train journey into a special edition of the Kompas Reporter, a newspaper of beautiful memories, surprising stories and colourful moments.

"As a tourism professional, I can justifiably say that Kranjska Gora and the Hotel Kompas would not be what they are today without the commitment of each and every one of you who, with your hospitality and kindness, have welcomed and accompanied guests over the years and made sure that their vacation remains a beautiful memory," said Director Milan Sajovic as he addressed all those gathered and thanked everyone who was and still is in our platoon.

Today, our train still has many exciting stops and new adventures ahead of it. It is therefore our task to continue this story of success, belonging and shared values with the same enthusiasm and commitment. In the future, we want to work even more closely with the local community, strengthen our culinary offer with authentic flavors that reflect the richness of the Gorenjska region, and continue to give our guests the best tips for exploring the beauties of Kranjska Gora and its surroundings. In this way, the future will be bright and full of new stories, written with love for tourism and respect for everything we have already created together.
