Kranjska Gora, 10. 2. 2021, The World Cup in cross-country skiing and biathlon for athletes with disabilities will be held in Slovenia for the first time
For the first time, Slovenia will host World Cup events in Nordic disciplines for athletes with disabilities. Hit Alpinea, in co-organization with the Nordic Center Planica, will welcome the world's top athletes with disabilities for competitions in cross-country skiing and biathlon before the end of this winter season. The competition, titled “I FEEL SLOVENIA World Cup in Cross-Country Skiing and Biathlon for Athletes with Disabilities, Planica - Kranjska Gora”, will take place from March 2 to March 10, 2021.
Athletes will compete in three categories: standing, sitting, and visually impaired. Planning and coordination for the event began over a year ago, and final preparations are currently underway for the competitions starting on March 2, 2021. The event will feature athletes with disabilities from around the world, including participants from Argentina, Australia, Belarus, Croatia, Canada, Czech Republic, Spain, Finland, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, New Zealand, Russia, Slovakia, Ukraine, and the United States.
Approximately 100 athletes, along with their accompanying staff, are expected to gather in Kranjska Gora. A detailed program will soon be published on the organizer's official website.
In preparing the accommodation facilities and organizing the competition, Hit Alpinea has taken all necessary COVID-19-related measures into account and has further enhanced them based on knowledge and experience gained during the recent hosting of teams and support staff at World Cup competitions in ski jumping and alpine skiing.
Milan Sajovic, Director of Hit Alpinea and President of the Organizing Committee:
“We are delighted to have added cross-country skiing and biathlon for athletes with disabilities to the series of high-level competitions that Kranjska Gora has already hosted. Once again, we have demonstrated that with collaboration, effort, essential experience, knowledge, and a touch of the characteristic persistence, we can achieve remarkable results – even in these challenging epidemiological conditions. At this point, we would like to extend our gratitude to the Slovenian Tourist Board, Tourism Kranjska Gora, the Nordic Center Planica, and other partners involved in the project for their support.”
